PUBLIC INTEREST

Group exhibition

21. 5. – 29. 7. 2026
Gallery 2

The theme of the group exhibition PUBLIC INTEREST, prepared by a curatorial team of students from the Master's program in Curatorial Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Design, Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, is critical research into the situation of public space in the city of Ústí nad Labem, which has been deteriorating for a long time under the influence of various negative circumstances. These circumstances include the absence of a concept for the development of public space, its inadequate management, the lack of interest on the part of local political representatives in purposefully improving the quality of life of the city's inhabitants, visual pollution, the long-term unresolved difficult social situation of a significant part of the city's population, and other aspects. However, even a small gesture, an economical artistic intervention, or an improvement in the quality of a specific place can often help to develop and improve public space, making it more welcoming and attractive to its users.

Invited artists representing the youngest contemporary artistic generation, led by a curatorial team, will design and, in selected cases, also implement site-specific and participatory interventions in specific locations in the public space of the city of Ústí nad Labem. At Gallery 2, they will exhibit project or photographic documentation of individual implementations.
