Panel discussion on the present and future of porcelain figurines.

The House of Art Ústí nad Labem invites you to a panel discussion on the current form and possible future directions of the porcelain figurine. The discussion will also focus on the work and authorial approach of Helena Patelisová, whose work raises questions of figuration, identity and working with porcelain in the context of contemporary art and design.

This exhibition presents a new series of porcelain sculptures inspired by George Orwell’s Animal Farm. The characters step out of satire and transform into pop-culture icons, mythical creatures, and extinct beings — a poetic story of identity, fragility, and subtle humor.

Each sculpture is “dressed” through a unique process: a hand-sewn costume is dipped in porcelain slip and fired to become a second skin. The series follows her earlier Mascots shown at DUÚL in 2023.

The project was showcased in the High Craft section of Designblok 2025.
