Tereza Sýkorová is a graduate of the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague, where she studied Intermedia. In her work she has long been exploring the structures of the world as an interconnected and non-hierarchical network
Key themes of her work include the relationship of human civilization to planet Earth and the impact of the digital environment on humans. She visually processes these ideas through recycled textile materials and diverse handmade techniques, which she combines with other media such as sound, photography and painting. The installation Nothing Exists Alone, which is made from recycled textiles, builds on these principles through intensive physical contact such as weaving, shaping, twisting.
The title of the installation is based on a quote by American writer and ecological pioneer Rachel Carson from her seminal book Silent Spring. This statement - "Nothing exists by itself " - emphasizes that our every action affects the wider environment. Tereza Sýkorová materializes this idea in works that often take on monumental proportions, in spatial installations or in participatory events and workshops. In these, she emphasizes shared work, joint creativity and mutual recognition.
Plot: Come and 'weave' your way through a collective textile object directly with an artist from the current exhibition Shared Existence at the House of Art Ústí nad Labem.
Interested parties can bring old textiles to be recycled.
