The exhibition THE GARDEN PARTY  is an output of CRP MŠMT 2022 Cooperation of art universities and faculties with local public partners and subjects of creative industries on the presentation of educational and creative activities. The main researcher of the project is the Faculty of Art and Design of the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem, co-researchers: the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno, the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava in Ostrava, the Institute of Creative Photography F-PF of the University of Silesia in Opava, the Faculty of Media Communications of the Tomáš Bata University in Zlín, Faculty of Fine Arts of the Technical University in Brno and the Faculty of Art and Architecture of the Technical University of Liberec.

The group exhibition THE  GARDEN PARTY will focus on exploring the social rituals perspective latently associated with natural processes, often represented in the form of traditional or, conversely, declining socio-cultural phenomena. The very title of the exhibition refers to one of Václav Havel’s key dramatic works, in which the phenomenon of the festival is ideologically and powerfully instrumentalized and deformed. The major significance of this absurd drama lies in the critique of opinion conformism, careerism and the moral decline of society in the 1960s.

In wider optics, it refers to the critique of the tendency of any central power structure to develop its own form of communication, which no longer follows common good, being used only for maintaining its own ideology and the power that empties and consumes itself alive. The exhibition project tries to touch this legacy with a symbolic overlap and to point out art education institutions for not only their educational function but also cultivating influence on the local environment at many levels (social, cultural, spiritual, environmental, political or ecological).

There will be presented a  wide range of creative works accentuating the quality of living through personal commitment and cultural and creative care in partial art, design, artistic-environmental or guerrilla-gardening projects. Questioning the problematic resources of their own region, return to traditionally perceived annual cycles in an effort to confront rural customs and traditions linked to natural processes with post-industrial society. In this context the original Václav Havel’s Garden Festival can become a real celebration of creative and at the same time functional projects, which, although speaking various languages, pursue a common meaningful goal.
