Jiří Bartoš – Colours of Sound

10. 11. — 11. 12. 2021 / Gallery 2

Artist: Jiří Bartoš
Curator: Adéla Machová

Jiří Bartoš has been working with classic materials such as metal or wood for a long time. Author’s interest ranges from the creation of product design to free spatial creation. The main elements of his authorial projects are sound and movement. In his fine arts work, we can find motifs of the play such as the object for the exhibition Our Transgas (2019) or the elements of searching and examining, which are processed by conceptual discourse and often a specific choice of material or form itself (The Mosaic project, 2018).

The exhibition project for Gallery 2 called Colors of Sound falls into the field of product design. There will be presented the author’s realizations of the devices, which are intended for sound playback, and a unique background is created for this presentation of speakers. When creating speakers, Jiří Bartoš uses basic geometric shapes and refers to the tradition of minimalist aesthetics. Bartoš combines a technical approach with artistic creativity, but always with regard to the high quality of sound/acoustics. Author’s audio sets have an amplifier and a built-in Bluetooth receiver.

The first author’s realization of speakers made of porcelain was called Audio I, (2007). The space between the electronics and the porcelain skeleton was filled with black rubber. The resulting design form was highly elegant and clean. Element speakers from 2020 were specially shaped in order to support the quality of the sound played, which is therefore also unique. Ceramics again appeared among the material used for a given product.

Jiří Bartoš also deals with the topic of design for music reproduction equipment in his doctoral studies in the field of Visual Communication at the Faculty of Art and Design of the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. Bartoš explores the possibilities of traditional and non-traditional use of metal, porcelain and wood in the creation of product design. Using both established technological procedures and experiments with new approaches and materials, author discovers the possibilities of new technologies (such as 3D printing).
