Students of the Studio of Natural Materials under leadership of American sculptor Vaughn Randall (Sculpture studio leader at State University of New York, Cortland) created cast-iron objects of their own designs. Cast-iron as creative material asks consistent and patient preparation process. From first paper scatches, calculating the weight, thinking about the final function, whether aesthetic or practical, through shaping, casting the design into gypsum and preparing the mold for the final casting of hot material, which needs final cleaning afterwards.

Creative work with traditional and non-traditional materials, experiment and effort to try out specific procedures in artistic or design work — these are the characteristic features of this studio.

Curators of the exhibition concept: Jan Krtička, Adéla Machová, Robert Vlasák

The exhibition presents artworks realized within the project Experimental Workplace — Artistic Cast Iron, which was supported by the ČEZ Foundation and FUD JEPU.
